Checking In At: Gold Coast, Queensland…

image

I’ve moved on from Brisbane for now… But i’m not done with it yet don’t you worry. I’ll be back there just next week!

Until then every morning I wake up and I get to look outside and see this spectacular view…. Please… don’t be too jealous…

I’ve been incredibly lucky with the weather so far, Queensland’s winter is kicking England’s summer’s YouKnowWhat! Today was the first bit of rain and cloud since I arrived on Thursday last week, which means i’ve had lots of sun to spend my days walking around enjoying the sights in my shorts and sunnies. Here’s to you Vitamin D!

Can anyone who’s been to the Gold Coast recommend a trip in the surrounding areas? I’d love to hear about it!

Checking Out Of: Brisbane

image

I was lucky enough to meet with my friend Elise again on Friday so got to see parts of Brisbane I might not have visited. We spent the afternoon wandering around, popping into little shops in the Valley and discovering sweet goodies.

First yummy stop was ‘I heart brownies’ which created delicious brownies in different flavours, all in little heart shapes. If you want to split a brownie between two of you, you have to take a knife and d it yourself though as the company ‘do not break hearts’!! Too right!

Second stop was Chester Street Bakery, home of the most amazing cakes. You can choose between a giant slice, a individual mini (not so mini) cake, a tray bake slice or icecream sandwiches. From 5 on a Friday and a Saturday they also do Pizza’s but I didn’t get to witness these. We split an ice cream sandwich but I would love to go back to try some amazing cake.

I love the stationary shops they have here. One is called Typo and is filled to the brim with random items that I can not justify buying at the moment. I can’t wait until I can make my first purchase.

Sunday I packed up my bags again ready to check out of Brisbane. But before I headed away I had the day to enjoy a bit more of Brisbane. Whilst staying at the AirBnb I met a Portuguese couple, Tatiana and Charles, who were staying there whilst looking for permanent residence. They were so lovely, and I hope I can go back and see them before I move on. We decided to bike to the local market to buy some fruit and veg, and nosey around the trinket stalls. The choice of food was amazing so we spent ages choosing a wonderful variety. As we headed back to the house we found a lovely spot by the river and decided to use some of our goodies for our lunch and come back for a picnic. It was gorgeous sitting by the river indulging in fresh bread, avocado salad and several types of chorizo and sausage.

These couple of days were taken over by strolls in the sun and eating as you can see. Pretty perfect!

Here’s to the next couple of days…

Checking In At: Brisbane, Queensland

image

I’ve spent the past couple of days enjoying Brisbane with old friends and new. The days have flown by and I don’t think i’ve even seen half of this lovely city so I will definitely be back for another visit!

I arrived at Brisbane Airport Thursday morning… my luggage however did not! I handed in my details with the lovely staff, who helped me along with a washbag and a bit of cash for essentials and off I went not knowing when or if it would arrive… Amazingly it arrived only hours later at my AirBnb!! I’m not entirely sure what happened there, as it seems to quick for it to arrive on a seperate plane, so maybe it had got caught up somewhere… but I am extremely lucky and thankful that it turned up so quickly!

The evening was spent with my friend Elise who I met at work in London when it was her turn to travel to the otherside of the country. It was so nice to see her and have a long overdue catch up in person! We strolled along Southbank, eating delicious discoveries from the current Noodle Market they have there… FYI I didn’t actually have noodles, cheesy chicken spring rolls which taste like a cheeseburger! And a waffle on a stick!

It gets dark here really early! Considering it was a BEAUTIFUL day, sunny and at least 23 degrees, by 5.30pm it was pitch black. And it does this all year round because they don’t have daylight saving here… so now it is winter, but even during summer it’s still dark at 5.30pm. I find that odd! It feels like your day is cut short and that you should be heading home to bed. On the other hand it is light at 5am. But considering I am no morning person, i can’t see myself getting up that early too often!

Thursday night I slept… and considering there was an 18th birthday party going on upstairs, I slept solidly and soundly (with the help of earplugs) right into Friday morning.. where I also slept for a long while…. I needed that sleep! And I don’t want to jinx it, but it seems that that is as far as my jetlag goes! I actually feel really good! … I think it will be a whole other story when I get back to England.

I think i’ll leave this tale here for now… or this post may get really long… so… To Be Continued…

Checking In At: Singapore, Changi Airport…

Wow, these past few days have been manic. Whilst I thought that I was rather organised for my trip, turns out.. I WASN’T!!! I was running last minute errands right up til the last minute! … Meaning I didnt even have time to update on here how things were going.

You’ll be happy to hear (i hope) that I have reached the halfway point of my journey and am happily typing away in the comfort of Changi Airport, Singapore. The 12.50 hour flight went as smoothly as possible, the only downfall being my inability to sleep well sitting upright… I’m sure that will change by the end of my travels!!

I flew with Singapore Airlines, an incredibly accomodating company. Before we had even moved hot towels were passed out, although with the amount of bodies in such a small space I was happy for the towel to turn cold as quickly as possible. Food and drinks were constantly handed out. It was good to see trays of water and orange juice being passed around so often as well, especially on such a long trip.

Singapore airlines have set up a new transit programme just in time for my arrival which meant that I was handed on my arrival two complimentary $20 vouchers. One was for the cosmetics/alcohol counter and the other could be used in most stores and services in the airport. I treated myself to some new nailpolish and handcream with the first voucher and best of all 2 hours in a transit lounge with the 2nd voucher. Food and an amazing shower was perfect after a well needed nap.

Before I could nap I took advantage of Changi’s free bus tour of Singapore. It was great to be able to visit some of Singapore whilst I was there! The tour is about 2 hours long with 2 twenty minute stops to see the merlion statue and the king”s mansion. These were more than enough for me on this particular day as the heat was humid and uncomfortable when fighting against having had no sleep. I enjoyed watching the world go by, seeing everyday life from the road. These are a few photo”s from my phone…

I would love to tell you about my ride down the 12ft Slide they have at Terminal 3… and the rooftop pool they have on top of the Terminal… But unfortunately both were closed due to renovation work. I was really looking forward to both of these, but I suppose they will have to wait for another time!

I”ll be heading off for my 2nd leg of the journey soon! Only 9 more hours and i’ll be in Australia!

Oh So Real…

Oh So Real

I have booked the first place that I am going to stay when I reach Brisbane! Now, when I head off on my own after living in the luxury of a house with my Aunt and Uncle I will be hitting all manners of hostels and unusual accommodation. Of that I am certain. However for my first couple of nights I figured i’m going to be a tad (a lot) jet-lagged! So I would like a good bed for a good sleep so I can make the most of seeing my friend Elise and exploring Brisbane in all its glory!

Where to look for a more persAirBnBonal stay in Brisbane that isn’t a hostel… AirBnB of course! My first ever request has just been accepted and I am so excited to be staying with Clare and her family, in what looks like an absolutely gorgeous place!

Photo’s and tales of my first AirBnB experience will be heading your way from the 31st of July!! Suddenly it feels Oh So REAL!!

I made my own AirBnB logo for my profile, I thought it was quite fitting don’t you agree?

Ladies Who Lunch… Making time for friends…

Ladies Who Lunch

Sometimes finding time to catch up with friends is difficult. I have my friends who I see very regularly; and then I have my friends that I don’t get to see enough of. Today I met two such friends for lunch in Norwich and because of this I feel amazing. I could literally use the description ‘feeling warm and fuzzy inside!’…

I don’t think we’ve been able to see each other for about a year due to a number of reasons, but no one around us would have thought that. The afternoon was filled with laughter, memories, laughter, the latest news, smiles and more laughter. My jaw really does hurts from the amount of smiling, laughing and talking that happened today.

It was wonderful to hear and see how wonderful everyone was feeling about their lives at this moment in time, even though we are all on very different paths. Mel now has a beautiful five month old daughter and the joy just oozes out when she talks about her. Clare has taken the plunge into self-employment as a vocal coach (about time too the talented so and so!). Her enthusiasm for performance is contagious so this is definitely one giant leap in the right direction. And then there’s me. Only two months and 19 days away from flying across to the other side of the world!! Everyone seemed really secure with the path that their life is currently forming and that is just an incredible thing to witness.

Anyway, my point is… make sure you make time to meet up with those friends you haven’t seen in a while… or even your friend you saw yesterday. Its good for the heart!

A Travelling Companion…

A Travelling Companion

I finally have some very exciting developments on my Australian Adventure!! Meet Emma (above photo), my lovely friend who has decided to take some time out of her busy schedule working in TV Land and will be joining me in Australia for a month in November!!

Now in case you haven’t worked it out yet, deciding where to visit and when is proving difficult for me! So far I land in Brisbane at the end of July, and will reside in that area for a little while exploring. Then I don’t really have any plans. I know of hundreds of places that I would like to visit. I just don’t know in what order yet…

But Emma has kicked my bum into gear and for November we have a whirlwind tour ahead of us!! SO, where do we plan to go?? First stop Sydney (Can anyone really travel all the way to Australia and not visit Sydney?!). Then back to Brisbane and Gold Coast where I will be able to show off my favourite finds. To Byron Bay for a surf lesson (sandy faceplants anyone?). Then up the coastline of Queensland, featuring: Noosa National Park, Fraser Island, Rockhampton, the Great Barrier Reef and finishing with Whitsunday Islands. … I am overwhelmed with just the thought of how much natural beauty I am going to experience on this trip!

Only just over 12 weeks until my flight departs!! The time is flying by…

xoxo

By the way.. do you like the photo of Emma? Emma is a singer and this photo is from a shoot I did of her to make an album cover. We had to hand stitch the flowers to invisible thread to make them hang. It looked so beautiful. As does Emma!
